Ripper Street (meg, 24 octobre 2012)
Matthew MacFadyen plays the seminal role of Detective Inspector Edmund Reid, a decidedly Holmes-like character. His Watson in tow is an American police surgeon named Captain Homer Jackson, played by Adam Rothenberg. Still reeling in the aftermath of the Jack the Ripper murders, Jackson and Reid must wade through a whole new set of violent assaults, and hope the infamous, evasive murderer never returns.

Blood on the street (This is South Wales, 29 décembre 2012)
PICK OF THE WEEK Ripper Street (The Scotsman, 30 décembre 2012)It's authentic representation of the rat-infested alleys, lit only by flickering shadows of gas lamps makes you feel claustrophobic and the opening scenes, which sees an an uncredited Roy Hudd taking a party of toffs around the streets made famous by Jack the Ripper, provide an instant way of appreciating the conditions Reid is having to patrol.
Ripper Street- Series 1 - 1. I Need Light (RadioTimes)ITV have Whitechapel, their present-day cop drama set in the London district synonymous with ’orrible murdering, but for this new eight-part drama the BBC has gone direct to the source. Set in 1889, when the Ripper case was still a mass-media sensation, it stars former Spooks operative Matthew Macfadyen as the embattled head of H Division, charged with bringing order to the rambunctious and unhygienic streets. But I suspect the real excitement will come from his sidekick Jerome Flynn. The former karaoke commando has recently rehabilitated his reputation by playing the pre-eminent badass swordsman in Game Of Thrones, a show full of them.
Richard Warlow’s full-on script, in the first of an eight-part series, and the excellent production design pull us straight into Ripper Street. You can almost smell the stench of a capital groping its way to prosperity after the Industrial Revolution. But it’s a strange thing, a stylised oddity and, oh my,
it’s very kinky.

TV review: Ripper Street; Neil Armstrong – First Man on the Moon; The Hotel (The Guardian, 30 décembre 2012)
Ripper Street, BBC One, review (The Telegraph, 30 décembre 2012)
Ripper Street episode 1 review: I Need Light (Den of geek, 30 décembre 2012)It throws in everything from CSI to Sherlock, but Ripper Street is proper crime drama .
...
But, on the first point, this isn't really about Jack the Ripper – not so far, anyway. It's about the aftermath, it's about a time and a place and a feeling, it's about the police, and the press, and the people, and it's actually about that obsession. And on the other: well, maybe it is a cocktail – but it's a bloody good cocktail. Warlow's/Leveson's script is real, alive and human. It's beautifully performed, and beautiful to look at – stylish, and stylised. The bare-knuckle fight scenes are brutal and memorable. It's proper, character-based crime drama, gripping, and yes – I'm afraid – ripping as well.
Ripper Street, BBC One, review (The Telegraph, 30 décembre 2012)
Macfadyen has such gravitas these days that he adds weight to any production.

Ripper Street brought something filthy to the table (Metro, 2 janvier 2013)
TV review: Ripper Street was decidedly unfestive, like pulling a wishbone and having maggots come wriggling out of a bit of stray meat ...
... Ripper Street is set to shake up the next seven Sundays. About time.

Re: La revue de presse
Graphic Ripper spin-off finds a certain balance (This is Cornwall, 5 janvier 2013)
I quickly warmed to Matthew Macfadyen as the smart and decent Detective Inspector Reid, a rather mature, beat-up looking Jerome Flynn as his loyal sidekick, and Adam Rothenberg as his maverick American surgeon pal, Captain Homer Jackson, with Clive Russell popping in as the retired police chief who thinks the Ripper is back.
In spite of its dark, sometimes brutal nature, this first of an eight-part series had the strangely comforting feel of an edgy Western, transported to the Victorian East End. More, please.
