Swedish actress MyAnna Buring recounts her childhood years and her close connection with Oman in an interview with David Solomon

“Currently I’m in Dublin working with Matthew McFaddyn (Mr Darcy in Joe Wright’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice). We’re filming a cop series set in 1800’s London called Ripper Street, and this time my character is a feisty, fiery Madame, who has a past.”

Matthew MacFayden isn't quite as omnipresent as Elba, but he's been a busy bee since his big-screen breakthrough as Mr. Darcy opposite Keira Knightley's Lizzy Bennett in "Pride & Prejudice." The actor has cropped up in films from "Frost/Nixon" and "Robin Hood" to "The Three Musketeers" and the upcoming "Anna Karenina," but he's going back to TV quite soon for the BBC's 8-part series "Ripper Street," a period crime drama in which he'll play the head of a group of detectives in 1899 East London tracking serial killers. Jerome Flynn ("Game Of Thrones") and MyAnna Buring ("Kill List") also star, and it'll air on BBC America in the fall.

Off to Dublin in a week to play with Prior Philip - who will come off best this time around?!

You're in Dublin right now filming upcoming BBC One drama Ripper Street - what can you reveal about your role in that?
"I play a great character in that, who is the madam of a brothel - 'the best brothel in East London, I'll have you know'. She is completely different to Sylvie, she is much tougher, Sylvie is very fragile, and has a real brittle aspect to her. Whereas my character in Ripper Street most definitely doesn't, she's a really tough cookie, she knows how to handle herself."

He will also be making a guest appearance in BBC drama Ripper Street which explores London in the aftermath of the Jack the Ripper murders. McGann says of his character in Ripper Street: ‘He’s this corrupt, self-aggrandising politician type. It’s going to be really good, I think. Doing that, doing a bunch of audios for this [Doctor Who]. Some other things which I’d tell you about but I’d have to kill you.’

London calling ... Ripper Street nanny

Charlene recently finished filming on BBC drama Ripper Street. The gruesome series tells the story of serial killer Jack The Ripper. Charlene plays the part of Rose; a prostitute who dreams of making it big as a theatre actress.

"I play a prostitute who wants to be an actress," she said. "She's quite a humourous part. She doesn't have your typical Victorian way of thinking. It's nice having that dark comedy because she gets embroiled in a lot of really, really heavy stuff. But Rose is a bit like a cat, she has nine lives and, thankfully, escapes all the murders."

Charlene enjoyed working on the series but says she'll be glad to take a break from the corset.

"I grew very, very tired of the corsets," she admitted. "It was a five- month shoot so the novelty wore off pretty quickly. At first you think, 'look at the size of my waist' and 'look at the size of my bum'. I thought it was amazing but by the end of the shoot you're glad to see the back of it," she laughed.

The petite actress says she was surprised and relieved when she heard that the series would be shot in Dublin.

"When I found out that they were going to film it all in Dublin, I was like 'ah for God's sake!' I moved from Dublin to the East End of London to get more work and next thing you know I'm playing an Eastender back in Dublin."
